Web Reference – Revised and updated

The New Trier librarians, especially Matt and I, have been busy working on a summer grant to refresh, revise, and update our Web Reference.
http://newtrier.libguides.com/webref

Here, again, is the NEW link on LibGuides: http://newtrier.libguides.com/webref
You may have bookmarked a former address: (WebRef previously was available at http://www.newtrier.k12.il.us/page.aspx?id=8701 and you might see it clicking here).

All of us still have work to do to improve Web Ref further – we would like to add more images and add links from the LibGuides Community.  Plus, we would like to incorporate some relevant RSS feeds and stress those specific database sources which may be helpful to our students. We know that our Web Ref was widely used in the past across a number of schools and are welcoming any input about links and topics which should be included.  Contact us with your ideas and suggestions- Thank You!

Some Government money is not wasted: Primary Sources and Worthwhile Reference Guides

The Library of Congress is constantly adding resources such as wonderful newly digitized primary source materials.  One recent discovery is the Herblock! cartoon collection celebrating Pulitzer Prize-winning cartoonist Herb Block (1909–2001) with 82 digitized original cartoons spanning his seventy-two-year career (1929–2001).

Another amazing resource librarians should pay attention to and add to web reference online resources are the Reference Guides from Library of Congress.

The Main Reading Room of the Library of Congress has eight alcoves. This ninth "virtual alcove" is a collection of websites selected and annotated by Humanities and Social Sciences Division subject specialists.

Alcove 9: An Annotated List of Reference Websites--All of these websites have components that are free and available to the public; some might require user registration, or may have links to fee-based services.
